Bartow's Greatest Generation
Website
September 25, 2008 -January 17, 2009

Bartow History Center, Cartersville, Georgia
Forever immortalized by Tom Brokaw as "The Greatest Generation," the men and women who lived and participated in the events of the 1940s have forever left an impression on American history. Likewise, residents of Bartow County during the 1940s contributed to that life changing and history making event known as World War II. This feature exhibit looks at the story of Bartow's connections and contributions to World War II. Through oral histories, uniforms, photos, souvenirs, ration books, newspapers, flags, maps, letters and much more, the exhibit highlights the activities that took place on the home front and battlefront as Bartow Countians did their part for the war effort. From adults who served as soldiers and pilots, including a Tuskegee airman, and factory workers and nurses, to children who collected scrap materials and planted Victory gardens, many in Bartow County came together, along with much of the rest of the country, to fight for freedom. The exhibit is sponsored by the American Legion Carl Boyd Post #42.
