Barnsley Gardens Resort, Adairsville, Georgia
Jeff Hull of Watkinsville will begin his Georgia Open title defense on Thursday when Barnsley Gardens Resort hosts the crowning jewel in Georgia golf for the first time in the history of this 55-year-old championship. Through a series of six Georgia PGA qualifiers the final field has been narrowed to 144 of the state's top professional and amateur golfers. The Georgia Open is the only 72-hole, four-day championship of all Georgia PGA events, and is the only Georgia PGA event in which there is a cut after the first 36 holes of competition. Past champions of the Georgia Open form a virtual "Who's Who" of Georgia golfers, including Larry Nelson, DeWitt Weaver, Franklin Langham, Tim Simpson, Bob Tway, Gene Sauers, and 1973 Masters Champion Tommy Aaron. Spectators are welcome and are encouraged to bring a chair and wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Call for information.
