SPACE SILENCE SPIRIT: Maynard Dixon's West
Website
May 3, 2008 -July 27, 2008
Booth Western Art Museum, Cartersville, Georgia
This exhibition features examples from two outstanding collections of Maynard Dixon's artwork. Over a half century after his death, Dixon is becoming recognized as one of the greatest Western artists of all time, regarded for his ability to blend real-life imagery of the West with modern influences. This is the first and largest known exhibition of Dixon's work in the Southeast, the artist's ancestral homeland. The A.P. Hays collection features paintings and sketches providing an overview of the artist's lengthy career, including photographs by Dixon's second wife, Dorothea Lange. Meanwhile, fifteen masterworks from the incomparable collection at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art in Provo, Utah will offer an opportunity to see Dixon at his very best.
