Life is in color, and has been since the beginning. Do you have a favorite color? Do certain colors bring out certain feelings in you? This special exhibit features colorful textiles from the Bartow History Center Collection that are seldom seen. Primarily focused on clothing and accessories and arranged like a color wheel, the exhibit will describe what colors have meant to people in the past and today. Make plans to see this colorful side of history. Sponsorship of this exhibit is funded in part by Morris' Color Center and Benjamin Moore Paints.

Guided hike begins each Monday (except Memorial Day) at the West Loop Trailhead at 8 a.m. This 1.57 mile hike on compacted soil is rated moderate to difficult and takes approximately 2 hours. Hiking group will extend to 4.3 mile hike including East Loop Trail in July/August. Guided by City of Cartersville Parks & Recreation Department.

Hidden Heritage: Western Art Treasures from an Atlanta Collection

In the Theatre Lobby Gallery. An Atlanta couple that shared a love for the West and Western Art spent more than twenty years building an excellent collection of Western images, including many outstanding examples from members of the Cowboy Artists of America. This exhibition will survey the best of the collection, including powerful oil paintings, highly detailed pencil drawings and dramatic bronze sculptures. This collection reminds us that some of the best examples of Western American art are practically in our backyard.

Grand Theatre Senior Music Theatre Camp

Students who have completed grades 7-12 are invited to experience all aspects of performing a Broadway production including acting, singing, dancing, technical work, costuming, makeup, and commitment to others. The camp takes place Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Students should bring a lunch or may eat on their own downtown. The musical will be "Once Upon A Mattress," directed by Erin Gunter, Nathan Autry and Brian McLeod, and will take place August 1-2 at 7 p.m. and August 3, at 2:30 p.m. Camp cost: $325 per student; non-refundable deposit of $150 due at registration, balance due May 1.

Recently, Noisecat has worked in Oklahoma and New Mexico and has been featured in "Southwest Art Magazine."

Concerts will be held in Log Town (site of amusement rides during the annual Great Locomotive Chase Festival). Limited bleacher seating is available. The Adairsville Lion's Club will have concessions available including hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, soft drinks and desserts. Bring the whole family. Alcohol not permitted on the premises. Indian Mound Paddle on the Etowah River

This 17-mile paddle takes in Cartersville from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The second installment in the Etowah Adventurer series, this trip takes you from Allatoona Dam to Euharlee on a 17-mile course through history. Portage around Cartersville's Thompson-Weinman Dam and paddle past the Indian Mounds and Antebellum plantations before reaching Euharlee and the town's famous covered bridge over Euharlee Creek. Pre-registration is required. Canoe rentals are available through Adventure Rome 'N Around and CRBI with discounts available to CRBI members. The trip is free to CRBI members. Regular annual membership dues are $35 and you can join online.

This is the second installment of the Booth Museum's signature triennial exhibition featuring Western Art from Southern collections. Building on the success of the first exhibition in this series, the Museum will showcase seldom-seen Western American art from public and private collections throughout the South. Artwork by the greatest Western artists of the 19th and 20th centuries will be featured. This edition of the series will have stronger focus on art from private colelctions in the region. In addition, a substantial catalog is planned to reflect the caliber of the works anticipated for this exhibition.

This exhibition in the Theatre Lobby Gallery showcases the artwork of David DeVary of Santa Fe, the featured artist for the 6th Annual Southeastern Cowboy Festival & Symposium. DeVary believes the cowboy and cowgirl are the American icons of today. As such, these subjects deserve to be painted like the religious icon paintings of much earlier times. DeVary uses metals such as copper, gold and silver along with acrylic paints to present colorful portraits of cowboys and cowgirls who are full of attitude and raw emotion. Meet DeVary during the Opening Reception on October 23 from 5-7 p.m. followed by the featured artist presentation in the Booth Theatre at 7 p.m.

Of Cherokee descent, Weldon's passion for his family heritage led him to begin drawing Native Americans. His works, based upon historical research, are highly developed in terms of technique, but also tell a story and convey emotions. One of Tony's drawings is part of the permanent Booth Museum Collection, while another was recently accepted into the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. This exhibition recognizes the Cherokee heritage that links the West with the Southeast and coincides with Native American Heritage month in November. Museum admission charged. Members admitted free.

7 p.m. Ken Powell, a WWII veteran and former POW in Germany, will speak about his experiences in the war and discuss the book "Four Stars in the Window." The book tells the dramatic true story of four brothers in one family during WWII who survived an Iwo Jima battle, Omaha Beach on D-Day, a German POW camp and Army Air Corps cadet training. His wife, Kathleen, will entertain you as she portrays "Rosie the Riveter." A book signing will follow.

Join Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, Red Top Mountain State Park and the Etowah Valley Historical Society in commemorating this hallowed ground. Enjoy Battlefield Tours, tours of the historic Clayton Mooney House which was used as a hospital during the Civil War, and infantry and cannon demonstrations. Saturday 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Tour the hillside and the railroad cut through the pass. Walk the trails, visit the star fort earthworks, and follow the old Tennessee Road just as the soldiers did in 1864. Explore daily life in the tent city. Space is limited for the house tours which will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m.-Noon and 1-3 p.m. and on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. Get your house tour tickets early upon arrival at the event. Shuttle service and parking is available at the Allatoona Landing Marina, just past the event.

Voices will echo once again in Oak Hill Cemetery as the Bartow History Center and StageWorks, Inc. presents "An Evening at Oak Hill." Now in its 6th year, this tour through one of Bartow County's most important historic sites will give visitors the opportunity to learn about some of the area's fascinating residents of days past. Costumed actors will portray various Bartow Countians buried in the cemetery. Guides will take groups through the cemetery, stopping at the graves of those portrayed by the actors. Tours begin at 6:30 p.m. and take place each half hour, with the final tour at 8 p.m. Tickets are limited for each tour and may be purchased in advance at the BHC Museum Store or by calling 770-387-2774. BHC Members $5 and non-members $10. Tours last approximately one hour and involves hilly terrain. Guests are encouraged to bring a flashlight, and an umbrella in case of rain.

The winners will be crowned by Miss Georgia USA Amanda Kozak and Miss Georgia Teen USA Shannon Geraghty. The new titleholders will be awarded an extensive prize package that includes scholarships and the opportunity to compete for the title of MISS USA and MISS TEEN USA, respectively. The 2009 Pageant promises to be one of the most exciting opportunities for young women throughout Georgia. The pageants are directed by Kimberly Payne Greenwood, a former Miss Tennessee USA and wife of entertainer and Grammy award winner, Lee Greenwood.

The Burning of Cassville

Cassville Confederate Cemetery
Sponsored by the Cassville Historical Society. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. take a guided tour of the historic Cassville Confederate Cemetery as costumed guides portray the Widows of Cassville and commemorate the 144th anniversary of the burning of Cassville on November 5, 1864. The Fifth Ohio Cavalry burned the town of Cassville. Only three houses and the Churches escaped their flames. The women and children of Cassville fled to the cemetery and hid among the tombstones to escape the burning town. Guides will recount the history of old Cassville during this walk-through tour experience. Admission is free.

44th Annual Atlanta Steeplechase

Gates open at 9 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. The Atlanta Steeplechase is an incredible day of horse racing, tailgating, picnicking and family fun set in the northwest Georgia countryside. It is an all day event that includes live music, an air show, petting zoo, pony rides, shopping and of course the thrilling sport of steeplechase. Tickets by advance reservation, $30.

Registration begins at 6 a.m.(or pre-register for T-shirt) Ride begins at 8 a.m. 2nd largest Century Ride in the state with more than 800 participants throughout the southeast. T-shirt, snacks and lunch provided with registration $30. Ride includes 15, 30, 55 mile and century options. Three Mile Thrill fun family ride for all ages goes by Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site. Barnsley Gardens is a featured rest stop on other routes. Ride is fully sagged with R&R every 10 to 15 miles along the route. All proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Bartow County.
